Edificio Administrativo Nestle Queretaro

Implementing Nestle’s global mission of environmental and corporate social responsibility, the Edificio Administrativo at Querétaro promotes a healthy work environment for its administrative workers and also provides respect towards the environment upon which it is built.

This project reuses an existing building at Nestle Querétaro campus. There was an effort to reuse the former building and costs calculation demonstrated the benefits of partially demolishing “Edificio Administrativo” and reusing existing structure and walls. The Edificio Administrativo is an 8,124 SF two story space which provides a controlled environment to work. Further, the building houses open offices, a reception and a meeting room.

Over the past 40 years, Nestle Mexico has invested in improving the factory with indoor and outdoor solar powered lighting, rainwater recovery systems, 300 solar water heaters. Over the past eight years they have reduced water use by 46%, reduced energy use by 39% in the past seven years, and generated 75% less waste in the past three.
 
During schematic design the project team consisting of owner, architect, green building consultant, set out with four key concepts of sustainability that were incorporated early in the design of the project.
 
Building Reuse
 
Most part of the former administrative building is being maintained, extending the lifecycle of existing building stock and , conserving resources, reducing waste and reducing environmental impacts of new buildings as they relate to materials manufacturing and transport.
 
Integrated Water Management
 
100% of the waste water generated in the campus is collected and treated in a plant.
 
Heat Island Effect
 
Since schematic design, the project team prescribed high-reflective materials and the use of native species.
 
PV panels
 
PV panels are installed on the wall façade, providing an estimated average production of 11 kWh per day.
 
Through integrating programmatic elements with environmental design best practices, Nestle Edificio Administrativo at Querétaro has accomplished the company’s vision to provide an inspiring, healthy and beautiful community benefit to factory workers while addressing the factory safety challenges of ISO standards, serving as a global model for sustainable design and construction practices through its LEED Gold commitment.
